Social, Sporting & Recreation
The Curtin Student Guild, and the Centre itself organise a range of social and other activities. The guild organises entertainment for students, featuring bands (often from Abmusic) and other performers on a regular basis. A number of social groups and clubs are also based on campus.
The Curtin Mundjah festival, which celebrates the multicultural diversity of the university, has a strong Aboriginal community component. Its annual free concerts have featured headline acts such as Yothu Yindi & Christine Anu.
By arranging social events and activities, we try to encourage a sense of community and belonging for students (especially those who travel to Perth, away from family, friends and support networks).
Orientation Camp
The Centre encourages students to balance their academic work with social and recreational pursuits. An Orientation camp for new Bridging Course students is run before first semester starts. As well as preparing students for campus life, the camp fosters contacts and friendships with other students and staff.
Field Trips
We promote a broad understanding of "education" and a practical approach to the learning process. Field trips and other group activities are a fun part of many of the courses.
Sport and Recreation
If you're interested in participating in organised sport, there are plenty of clubs: football, hockey, basketball and netball to name just a few. There are also informal activities, such as golf, squash, tennis and martial arts, and there is a gymnasium on campus.
In all, there are 22 hectares of sports fields for cricket, athletics, basketball, netball, tennis, Australian Rules, rugby, hockey, baseball and soccer.
Some inter-campus sporting activities between Aboriginal students from the different universities are organised throughout the year. The Centre also lends sporting equipment free-of-charge to students. The Centre also enters men's & women's basketball teams in local competition.
