Indigenous Governance Policy

The development of the Indigenous Governance Policy follows a review in 2005 of Curtin University's practices and policies pertaining to Indigenous issues. The policy has meet University wide endorsement and reflects Curtin's on-going commitment to it's Indigenous staff and students.

The purpose of this policy is to state Curtin University's commitment to the support and promotion of Indigenous Governance at Curtin University and to identify the principles to guide the implementation of the Policy.

Curtin University will be one of the first Universities in Australia to have such a comprehensive policy and was also one of the first Universities to release a Statement in Reconciliation in 1998. This policy has significant benefits for Indigenous staff and students including assisting with access, participation, retention and completion of their courses through a range of services to support their academic and cultural requirements. The policy will reach out to the community through increased research programs of benefit to Indigenous groups which will also increase the research capacity of Indigenous people.
