Students examine, from Australian Indigenous perspectives, the cultural, social, economical, and political issues that confront Indigenous people. All the courses are underpinned by principles of social justice and are informed by emergent Indigenous Australian critical theory. Students examine the cultural, social, economic, political contexts and issues confronting Indigenous Australian people and, through Indigenous Australian perspectives, consider the dynamic and complex environment in which Indigenous Australian people are positioned. The approach behind these programs is underpinned by principles of social justice in both androgogical processes and intended outcomes, and is informed by emergent Indigenous Australian critical theory.
This honours course provides an opportunity for suitably qualified graduate students to undertake a dissertation based program in the field of Indigenous studies. The course focuses on Indigenous knowledge and research methodologies and emphasises multidisciplinary approaches to analyse topics of relevance to Indigenous people.
This course offers both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students the opportunity to combine expertise in cultural knowledge and critical thinking with a detailed understanding of media production and practical skills in a media area of choice. It develops the knowledge and skills required to work in professional roles that require understanding of the diverse cultural ways of Indigenous Australians.
